ローマ字を知っているので、単語は意外と書けます。でも、文になるとルールを知らないと書けません。
基本的なルールも、「そうしないと読み手が困るんだよ」という理由を伝えると、子どもたちは納得して学びやすくなります。

Japanese does not use the alphabet. So, for Japanese students, writing with spaces between words or using uppercase and lowercase letters is a completely new concept. In Japanese, there is no rule to put spaces between words. Instead, Japanese uses three scripts: hiragana, katakana, and kanji.

For example, if we write a sentence using only hiragana:
「きょうろんどんはさむいです」 — it’s hard to read.
But when we use all three scripts, it becomes:
「今日ロンドンは寒いです」 — and even without punctuation or spaces, it’s easy to understand.

When students understand the reasons behind English writing rules, they are more likely to follow them.
